Reasons To Wear Workout Clothes While Exercise

Workout clothes form the basis of any workout. It might seem obvious, but they are essential for exercise.
Whether it’s walking, running, weightlifting or cycling, workout clothes and activewear are a part of any exercise routine.
The activewear market, especially in the U.S, is the largest in the world! It accounts for more than 30% of activewear sales worldwide. According to Global Industry Analysts Inc. The market is expected to grow to $69.2 billion in 2020, which is up from $54.3 billion in 2015.
That’s a lot of sports bras, leggings, gym shorts and muscle shirts people!
I used to workout in any comfortable clothing I could find. By comfortable, I mean that I would use an ordinary pair of leggings and a cotton t-shirt and then hit the gym. But, after exercising consistently for about a year or two, I started looking into buying some workout clothes that wicked away my sweat and provided better support during my workout.

It worked wonders!

Seven years later, I have a full wardrobe of activewear that I simply cannot live without.
Appropriate clothing provides functionality and support, but I also realized that workout clothes have another added benefit . . . more on this later!

Why do you need workout clothes?

Whether you’ve been cooped up at home due to the pandemic and are looking to start exercising more at home or are simply looking into buying some new clothes for working out — activewear is key!
Just as you might wear business clothes for work, putting on your workout clothes sets you up for success in the gym.
You must dress for success — simple as that! The right kind of clothing can help you achieve your fitness goals because they are functional, they provide support and more importantly, they motivate you and boost your confidence!


Workout clothing is designed for a specific purpose. Whether its wicking away sweat more effectively, keeping you warm or cool during activities, or simply being more breathable — these ‘functions’ help you as you go about your activities and exercises.

Besides functionality, activewear supports you during your workouts. What do I mean by this? Well, the right kind of clothing prevents injuries.
A great example of providing support is compression clothing. Investing in the best type of compression wear can help protect your muscles from inflammation, injuries and provide support during recovery exercises.
Sports bras are another great example. Since they are sturdier than other bras, they help to minimize movement and any discomfort that might arise during a workout.
